ANFA STATEMENT

“‘World leaders, cultivating excellence and collaborating for the future of fingerlimes”

ANFA’s creation
and vision
for the future of
fingerlimes

The need for an industry body to represent our unique Australia native fingerlime growers and commercial interests was born on the realisation and acknowledgement that this fruit that is endemic to Australia was being adopted and appreciated not just in Australia, but across the world. Whilst international growth and marketing is respected, it is considered that Australia are the world leaders in this fruit and as such need to be united and represented.

Whilst Citrus Australia is an extremely successful leading body, it was considered that Australian fingerlimes are a unique branch of citrus. This uniqueness includes its growth and production, disease and pest resistance, nutritional qualities, genetic diversity and most significantly its provenance. This extensive list supports the need for a body that specifically caters to fingerlime production, innovation, research and marketing, and hence ANFA was created.

His work integrates advanced analytical techniques including LC–MS/MS, infrared spectroscopy, and chemometrics to support evidence-based quality, authenticity, and product development pathways for native food ingredients.

A central theme of Joseph’s work is the responsible translation of native food research into industry and community outcomes. He has extensive experience working with industry partners, Indigenous-led organisations, and community groups to ensure research is conducted ethically, transparently, and with respect for Indigenous knowledge systems. His broader interests include food sovereignty, sustainable production, and the development of practical tools that help bridge the gap between laboratory science and real-world food systems.

Joseph brings with him a strong commitment to scientific integrity, collaboration, and capacity building across the native foods sector. His combined background in research, education, and stakeholder engagement positions him to contribute to strategic thinking around innovation, quality assurance, and long-term sustainability within Australia’s native food industry.

DARYL MONCRIEFF

Daryl and his wife Amanda are the proud owners of Mountainside Finger Limes at Stokers Siding in northern NSW. Looking for a new venture after 12 years in Western Australia’s Kimberley, an episode of River Cottage Australia featuring fingerlimes provided the inspiration. A property with an existing plantation of 150 trees became available shortly after moving to northern NSW in 2020, with 375 more added in 2022.

Daryl has a background in conservation and land management, and is particularly interested in developing new fingerlimes products to value-add to the existing fresh fruit market.
